Supplies needed:

  • Craft Foam
  • Scissors and/or X-acto Knife

Step 1: cut out 2 pieces of cardboard the are 17″ long and 3/4″ wide

Step 2: cover in tan paper

Step 3: cut out 2 “X” shapes for supports under the beam. Cover them in paper and glue them on to the bottom of the beam.

Step 4: cut out 2 rectangles of cardboard, cover them with paper, and glue them to the bottom of the “X” shape in Step 3 to make the balance beam stand on its own

Step 5: cut wooden dowels according to the quantity and dimensions below

Step 6: glue together as shown below. Glue three of the 8″ pieces for the low bar and the two 12″ pieces glued with the last 8″ piece for the high bar.

Step 7: Cut out a rectangle piece of cardboard large enough to fit underneath the bars with about 7″ of space between them and cover it with craftfoam

Step 8: cut out craft foam pieces for mats to go underneath the bars and beam. The blue will go around the balance beam and the red will go around the bars. (See slideshow)

  1. This is so cute! I also loved the pond, but guess I waited too long to post as that page was unavailable. Still, wanted to say how clever I thought the “water feature” was!!
    Keep up the good work!
